I'm beyond thrilled to announce that my dad and I have officially finished our teardrop!! A year and a half of Sundays have definitely paid off. We worked so hard and learned so much and I am in awe when I look at our teardrop, I can't believe we actually built this! Thank you, and Big Woody, so much for the excellent plans, and always being available to answer questions. I love when you post other home builders because I can tell that you have so much enthusiasm for everyone's project. We are over the moon for our finished teardrop and can't wait to take it out very soon!
Yeah! Jennifer - We passed inspection in Pennsylvania ! Now waiting for plate and ready to go! Thank you and thank you Dave for watching over us!
PS: I never would have been able to do this without his plans.
My name is Cathy Block, the mother of Greg Block. Your husband helped my son build his own teardrop some years back. Greg, who is away at college, called me last night to say that he had heard your husband had passed away last year. He was terribly shaken and we are all very, very sorry about his untimely passing. When I speak about "good people in the world", I always bring up your husband's name. He took time out of his very busy schedule to share his knowledge and expertise with a kid he didn't even know. There are few men that I know who would do this. I cannot tell you the high regard in which Greg holds the memory of your husband. I know his intention was to someday drop by your shop and meet the man on the other side of his emails and show him his prized teardrop.
I cannot even imagine the hole his death may have created in your life, but I just wanted to let you know, he may be gone but he will never be forgotten in our household. Greg learned so much from him about construction and gained such confidence in his writing abilities during his daily correspondence with Woody. Greg always struggled with learning disabilities with reading and being able to write his thoughts onto paper, but through some miracle he would sit down in front of that computer and type away. I believe it was the confidence he developed that winter working with Woody that carried him through the rest of his high school years and landed him in college on an athletic scholarship, majoring in construction management. For that, I will be forever thankful.
If there is anything we could ever do to help you out, we would be more than happy to. I am attaching the link to the article that had appeared in the Chicago suburbs newspapers the summer after Greg completed his project. I am sure you have already seen it, but I just happen to have it as I saw that Greg had recently posted it on his Facebook page. Again, we are very sorry for your loss and hope you find peace in your heart during this holiday season.
Sincerely, Cathy Block
Today, I reached a milestone on my teardrop project: I have finally convinced myself that it's all going to come together!
I've started on the "strap and seal" part, but more importantly, my hatch door looks like it is going to work. I ordered the wrong kind of hinge - offset instead of flush - but I made some adjustments and it'll be fine.
I've been working pretty much every day for the last 2-1/2 months, and I'd say I only have a few weeks left - but I am finally done with almost all the varnishing (there's a LOT of varnishing as you know).
Several people have looked at the camper and said, "I could never do that." And I say to them, "Neither could I, except that I have these exceptional plans that have taken me step by step through the whole thing."
I'll send pictures when I finally get it out of the garage - it's pretty dark in there.
I think Dave would be happy for me. He's been watching over my shoulder the whole time.
Today I purchased plans for your teardrop trailer and I have to tell you I am very impressed. I have built a boat as well as many other woodworking projects and have NEVER received plans with instructions that were this good. Like your website said, I had looked at other plans out there on the market and there is nothing close to what you produce. I look forward to sharing my progress with you.
